Life behind the lens: Where I devote my time when not photographing

Writer's picture: Chelsea MackeyChelsea Mackey

I thought I would take a moment on this absolutely gorgeous, yet busy Thursday, in between kids appointments, park play dates, and gymnastics to post something a little different. This is more of a get to know me post. You have seen my beautiful clients across my timeline, viewed the same gorgeous location spots I have come across and heard about specials I am offering, but I wanted to give you a little behind the lens. What I do on my off time and who I spend it with and where I draw my strength and inspiration to do what I do.

If anyone has happened across my About the Photographer section of my site, then you may have noticed the about me section and read that I am a mother of four and wife to a service member. We are approaching yet another training this year where the kids and I will be spending the rest of the summer solo in our adventures. It happens. We sure do miss him when he's gone, but it comes with the territory. So we fill all of our idle time as much as possible linking up with wonderful friends, going on little outings to get group (it's our favorite 😉so if you know a great spot, comment below!) or park play dates or spending time at the lake. Today myself and two of my munchkins had about an hour to spend between all of the chaos so we decided to hit up the local splash pad with a dear and close friend and her little ones 😁

Summer days are our absolute favorite. And I never get tired of seeing Mount Rainier in all her beauty! My daughter (Lilly, who is 8) has been a fish most of her life and longs for the water. Maybe she was a mermaid in a past life 🧜 she is bound and determined to turn my son (Rowen, who is 1) into a merman, but he is a little reluctant. Lilly prides herself on her big sister duties and I don't know if I could do it without her. It's great getting to raise your future best friend 💕 she always amazes me as her confidence and self-actualization is much stronger than mine was at that age! She is my cheerleader and always rooting for me, even on my bad days 😁

Rowen is a momma's boy by definition. His favorite word is mommy. If you ever catch us out, you will see, or well hear. As of right now, hearing him say mommy over and over throughout the day is one of my favorite things. He is definitely my busiest kid, as you may see the playground we have going for him in the living room. What you can't see in frame is the toddler swing and the bazillion ride on toys 🤦 he has definitely taken over the space! Rowen and Lilly radiate such strong personalities and independence and they also share one other thing in common that may account for their strength and power. They are both beautiful rainbow babies. A gift all on their own. So, even if it's only an hour or twenty minutes, if we have a moment to go enjoy some time together at the park, or getting FroYo, we jump at the opportunity because memories with these guys are priceless 💕 before I know it, they will be teenagers, too cool for mom as with my other two children 😂 stay tuned for a post about those knuckleheads soon 😉

(Phone upload because carrying around my camera everywhere leads to neck pain and the need for a massage)
